Periods and the Two Spaces After Them.

Today’s daily prompt asks:

“We all have strange relationships with punctuation — do you overuse exclamation marks? Do you avoid semicolons like the plague? What type of punctuation could you never live without? Tell us all about your punctuation quirks!”

I hate texting lingo.  When I text I write things as if I’m writing a paper for school.  I never abbreviate things or use numbers as parts of a word.  I always capitalize my letters when needed and I use proper punctuation.  I know it is supposed to be faster and easier but I just hate it.  I hate reading it and I can’t make myself type it (unless I’m doing it on purpose to be stupid or make fun of it).

Along with that, I was taught in a keyboarding class my freshman year in high school that you are supposed to put two spaces after a sentence when typing.  Ever since then I have always done that.  Later in life I learned that a lot of people don’t like that (although I’m not sure how they notice) and that some people even think that is wrong.  Apparently it was a type writer thing and you don’t need to do it on computers but that is what I was taught and for some reason I always do it.  You can check through all my posts on here and find two spaces after each period.

What are your weird punctuation habits?

Bedtime Procrastination

Today’s daily prompt asks:

“More and more of us go to bed too late because of sleep procrastination. What are the nighttime rituals that keep you up before finally dozing off?”

This seems like a pretty boring topic to me, maybe because my sleep procrastination seems rather boring to me.  Or maybe it doesn’t seem that interesting to me because it is just my normal routine and I’m so used to it.

I usually watch The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon every weeknight if I am home.  I usually don’t watch on Fridays, so Monday through Thursday I am watching that show from 10:30-11:30 PM regardless of what time I have to get up the next morning.  Sometimes that is a bad choice and sometimes that doesn’t really affect me.

Then once I get in bed and lay down I usually ALWAYS go through all my social media really quick.  I check my Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and occasionally Facebook (it is losing popularity with me), regardless of the last time I checked them.  I could have literally checked them all in the last 5 minutes of The Tonight Show but then I have to check them all again before falling asleep.  Once again, sometimes this isn’t a bad thing if I can sleep in the next morning but if I have to get up early I usually regret that the next morning.  Also, I read somewhere that the light from your phone is bad to look at before going to bed and I always think of that but it never stops me from doing it.

So that is my lame bedtime procrastination ritual.

Toys ‘R’ Us & Boy Meets World

Today’s daily post asks:

“Do you remember a recent dream you had? Or an older one that stayed vivid in your mind? Today, you’re your own Freud: Tell us the dream, then interpret it for us! Feel free to be as serious or humorous as you see fit, or to invent a dream if you can’t remember a real one.”

This is a real recurring dream that I used to have when I was younger (junior high aged?) and I never really understood it.  Perhaps you will read this and have an explanation to offer up as to what it means.  In order to fully understand the dream you need to watch this clip from Boy Meets World:

Now when I was a kid I would always have the same dream every night if I had watched this specific episode that day.  It only happened like 3 times that I can remember because this wasn’t a super popular episode that they showed reruns of, but for some reason this episode would cause this dream.

I would be lost in a Toys ‘R’ Us.  I literally could not find my way to the exit and I would be panicking.  I don’t know how I got in there, I always started inside the store in the dream, but it was the biggest store ever and I couldn’t get out.  Eventually, a random man would help me out of the store.  He guided me to the exit and upon getting outside and I would get on my knees and sign this song to him in the style of Cory Matthews.

So. Weird.

So what do you think?  Do you have any thoughts as to what it means?

June 6th, 2014 Through My Eyes

Today’s daily prompt asks:

“Describe a typical day in your life — but do it in a form or in a medium you’ve rarely — if ever – used before. If you’re a photoblogger, write a poem. If you’re a poet, write an open letter. If you’re a travel blogger, write a rant. (These are all examples — choose whatever form you feel like trying out!)”

I decided to do a semi-photo journal of my day.  I will provide brief captions for each picture to give a little insight.

I start my day off with a little cold brewed coffee.  Delicious!

I got a package of holi powder in the mail for a game at a summer camp I’m directing in a few weeks.

I went to an outdoor mall for lunch because the weather was beautiful.

I am house sitting this week for a friend.  I have to go to their house for 3 hours a day to run sprinklers and check the mail.  I’m reading Allegiant by Veronica Roth to pass the time.

Playing TwoDots (my current game addiction).

Doing some GoPro tests with some friends for something I am going to do at the summer camp in a few weeks.  We tried strapping it to a kite to get an ariel view but it was too heavy so we just flew the kite.

We got milkshakes afterwords.

The Children

I’m a huge Game of Thrones fan (TV show only, I haven’t read the books). So much so that I watched last night’s season finale from 1:00 – 2:00 AM because thats the earliest I could do it at and I didn’t want to wait until the next day to watch it.

I won’t talk about the show or post any potential spoilers I just wanted to share this song from the end of the episode. It’s a chorale version of the shows main theme song and I really enjoyed it.
